About the book
Leadership Assessment for Talent Development explores how leadership assessment can move beyond recruitment to become a powerful tool for talent development. Bringing together research, practical approaches and real-world case studies, it demonstrates how assessment can increase self-awareness, identify development needs and help accelerate meaningful behavioural change.
The book covers Transpersonal Leadership and emotional intelligence, leadership development needs, blind spots and hidden strengths, LEIPA® and 8ICOL®, feedback and feedforward, coaching, workplace projects, peer groups, storytelling and approaches to measuring return on investment.
LeaderShape Global’s contribution
John Knights co-edited the book with Professor Tony Wall and contributed extensively to its exploration of leadership assessment and development. Danielle Grant also contributed to the book, including work on feedback, feedforward and coaching for talent development.
Of particular relevance to LeaderShape Global’s work today, the book contains some of our key published research on leadership development needs, blind spots and hidden strengths, as well as a dedicated chapter exploring Transpersonal Leadership and the development and application of LEIPA® and 8ICOL®.
The research behind LEIPA®
The book provides an important part of the published evidence base behind LEIPA® and LeaderShape Global’s approach to using assessment as a catalyst for leadership development rather than simply as an evaluation tool.
From assessment to development
A central theme of the book is that leadership assessment has greatest value when it leads to development. Assessment can provide leaders with greater insight into how they lead, reveal strengths and development needs that may otherwise remain hidden, and provide a foundation for meaningful feedback and reflection.
These principles continue to underpin LeaderShape Global’s approach today – connecting insight with coaching, reflection and practical development to help leaders translate greater self-awareness into sustainable changes in behaviour.
Why it still matters
More than a decade after publication, the ideas explored in Leadership Assessment for Talent Development remain closely connected to our work – using insight, feedback and evidence to increase self-awareness, identify development opportunities and help leaders make meaningful and lasting changes in behaviour.
